Two brothers killed, 10 injured in clash over Jamalpur land dispute

Two brothers were killed and some 10 other persons injured in clashes between two rival groups over land dispute at Sanandabari Lambapara village in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur on Friday and early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Yusuf Ali, 45 and Abdul Jalil, 33, sons of Haran Haji of the village.

On Friday morning, the clashes broke out around 10:00am when a group of people, led by former UP member Jaker Ali, went to Sanandabari Lambapara village with local weapons to take control over a piece of land. Haran Haji and his sons protested the group leading the clashes.

The clashes left Haran Haji and his two sons — Yusuf Ali and Abdul Jalil — critically injured. They were admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital.

Yusuf Ali and Abdul Jalil were sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as they sustained serious injuries in the clashes.

Yusuf Ali succumbed to his injuries at 10:00pm on Friday while Abdul Jalil died at 8:00am on Saturday morning. Their father Haran Haji was currently taking treatment at the Jamalpur General Hospital.

Officer-in-charge of Dewanganj Model Police Station Mainul Islam said, “Two brothers of a family were killed in a clash over land dispute. No case has been filed yet in the incident. Law and order situation of the area is now normal.”
